Maria Eduarda Souza is a Social Ecologist and Educator. Her mission is to engage people with the natural world and foster a reflection  about our presence on Earth. 


Maria Eduarda was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1990. From 2009 to 2015 she worked in the Brazilian Amazon with the indigenous peoples of Alto Xingu and with the Oriximiná Conservation Unit. She has lived with the tribe and participated in political demonstrations in defense of the rights of indigenous peoples and the protection of forests in Brazil. Maria Eduarda spoke at the 13th United Nations Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues {UNPFII} in NY. And participated together with Vice President Al Gore at the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training to learn how we can lead the global fight for climate solutions. In 2013 she moved to Botswana {Africa} where she documented the conservation and environmental education work of Children In The Wilderness.


In 2015 she attended the Becoming Indigenous programme at Schumacher College and joined as co-facilitator the following year. Maria Eduarda holds a Masters Degree in Ecology and Spirituality from Schumacher College in partnership with Trinity Saint David University in the UK. Between 2017/18 Maria Eduarda spent 1,5 years based in Bangkok, Thailand working with social environmental projects and the non profit Traidhos Tree Generation.

Recently she developed and produced a documentary series for the organisation East West Seed Knowledge Transfer who improves farmers' incomes by sharing technical knowledge of farming practices. Maria publishes monthly columns at Autossustentável network, she writes on the subjects of sustainability, indigenous people, activism, ecofeminism and ecology. Her focus is to share stories on social and environmental change.


Maria is currently based is Shanghai, China working with several projects including the Chinese social enterprise Green Initiatives as Program Manager. The organisation facilitates actions, implement projects and stimulates change toward sustainable models of growth and consumption. Together with Green Initiatives, Maria is designing and delivering educational programs on Climate Change as a Gender Issue, Ecology and Sustainability, Leadership in Sustainability and Social Innovation.



Inspired by nature Maria Eduarda is deepening her work with the feminine, to develop this practice she is offering a study programme on the wild woman archetype based on the book Women Who Run With The Wolves. To explore the female soul and environmental values, Maria is working with Ecofeminism. She holds women circles and is available to facilitate gatherings for women. Maria is part of the collective Wild Feminine Rising, a space for women to find gatherings, events, workshops, and retreats focused on the healing of the feminine all around the world. Maria is now exploring and studying the relation between women and climate change.
